Three men guilty of attacking Kingston mosque could face jail. David Morris, 21, of Epsom, Alfie Wallace, 19, of Shepperton and Martin Pottle, 23, of Hanworth were all found guilty of taking part in the attack on November 21, 2010, which left worshippers cowering inside.
At their conviction at Kingston Crown Court today, Judge Georgina Kent told the men they could face custody but released them on bail to be sentenced in four weeks time. She said: “These are of course serious offences and therefore all options are open.”
The jury had been contemplating the prospect of staying at Kingston Crown Court until 8pm. But they finally returned their verdicts shortly after 4.30pm after 19 hours of deliberation.
Racist Alfie Wallace was caught grinning in a picture found on co-defendant David Morris’ phone. He was found guilty of violent disorder and racially aggravated criminal damage. In a closed session during the trial the court heard he had displayed a black eye to a police officer at a hearing last year and claimed “a Paki” had hit him.
Morris, captured on CCTV in Tesco buying bacon later found strewn over the mosque, was cleared of violent disorder but found guilty of racially aggravated criminal damage.
Martin Pottle, who lied to police about being with the gang that attacked the mosque, was found guilty of violent disorder and racially aggravated criminal damage.
All three men will be sentenced on April 27 at Kingston Crown Court.
