The victim, 79, who lives locally, was on his way to the Islamic Centre in Cowley Mill Road, Uxbridge, when he was allegedly assaulted in Chiltern View Road at about 9.30pm on Saturday. He was treated for head injuries at the scene by London Ambulance paramedics then taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington where he is in a stable condition, according to his son, who said his father has not been able to speak to his family yet. EDL supporter who called for mosque to be burned down escapes prison sentence – and complains court treated him ‘very harshly’

Matthew TysonA Grimsby man has claimed that police treat Brits more harshly than Muslim extremists after appearing in court for posting racist abuse on Facebook.

Matthew Tyson, 23, of Rosemary Avenue, Grimsby, was sentenced at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court for posting offensive material about Muslims on an English Defence League Facebook site.

Rebecca Dolby, prosecuting, said that he wrote Grimsby Mosques “want burning down” after soldier Lee Rigby was attacked and killed by two men in Woolwich, on May 22. He also wrote that the turning of the former methodist church in Grimsby into a mosque “gets my blood boiling”, the court heard.

Grimsby’s Mosque was attacked days later – although Jade Taylor, mitigating, said he never intended for people to “follow” him. Tyson, who told police he “felt stupid” after posting the remarks, was not given a prison sentence, although Magistrate Anthony Miller said he “could have incited violence”.

Anti-Muslim acts on rise in France: CCIF annual report

CCIF rapport annuel 2013The Committee against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) says there has been a steady rise in anti-Muslim acts in France in recent years. The CCIF said in its annual report on Wednesday that the number of anti-Muslim acts jumped to 469 cases in 2012 from 298 in 2011, and 188 in 2010.

The report also denounced France’s civil service as “one of the principal vectors of Islamophobia” as it said bureaucrats often over-interpreted official secularist policies to incorrectly reject to serve Muslim women who wear Islamic headscarves.

According to the law, civil servants and girls who attend state schools are banned from wearing headscarves, but adults using a public service are not. However, some French officials refuse to conduct a civil wedding or issue documents if the woman concerned covers her hair, the report said.

The CCIF report added that anti-Muslim acts have increasingly targeted people, especially women, adding that assaults against mosques had approximately doubled in 2012 compared with the year before.

Anti-Muslim attacks in London rose eightfold after Rigby murder

ENGAGE reports that Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe has confirmed that hate crimes against Muslims in London rose from one to eight per day in the immediate aftermath Lee Rigby’s murder. Hogan-Howe stated:

Following the terrible murder of Lee Rigby in Woolwich we did see a rise in the number of reported hate crimes against Muslims from one a day to eight a day.

This lasted for around two weeks and has recently reduced to around two a day. There are two arson attacks which are always serious as people’s lives are put at risk. As a result we have had 24-hour police guarding of some high-risk sites over the last few weeks and extra patrolling. We are reviewing the situation every week across London and will take appropriate action to keep people safe.
