Two in court over attack on Poole mosque
Two men have appeared in court in connection with an alleged attack on a Poole mosque. Robert Mullins, 35, of Shaftesbury, and his brother Trevor Mullins, 38, of Poole, appeared at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The pair are charged with racially aggravated criminal damage in relation to an alleged attack at the Dorset Islamic Centre in Ashley Road, Parkstone, on Thursday afternoon. In a short hearing they spoke to only confirm their names and addresses. Both men were given conditional bail.

The murder of soldier Lee Rigby has provoked a backlash of anger across the UK, including the attacking of mosques, racial abuse and comments made on social media.
Attack on Grimsby mosque condemned by community leaders
Community leaders have condemned an attack on a Grimsby mosque in the wake of the murder of a soldier in London.
In a united front against apparently racially-motivated vandals, church leaders, police chiefs and council leaders today said the behaviour of a gang of drunken youths was “disgusting and unacceptable”.
Muslim leaders were less than a metre away from where bricks landed inside their mosque – which had been lobbed by teenagers at the windows of the building, at the junction of Weelsby Road and Legsby Avenue, shortly after 11pm on Thursday. It is believed that an end-of-term house party escalated into a backlash against the murder of drummer Lee Rigby, in Woolwich.
Cars were also damaged and bins were overturned, and Humberside Police arrested 11 teenagers, aged between 16 and 17.
Thugs attack chicken shop run by Muslim family in Upton Park
A Muslim family are in shock after their fried chicken shop was viciously attacked last night by vengeful thugs following the murder of a soldier in Woolwich.
Two men entered Dixy Chicken on Green Street, Upton Park at 9.30pm where staff claim they banged on the serving counter, shouting, “You killed one of our soldiers, we’ll kill you” before vandalising the shop.
Shabbir, who helps run the family business after his father Gulam died in March, said they did their best to patch the shop up and opened for business again today because they couldn’t afford not to.

Teenagers held after mosque attack in Grimsby
Eleven teenagers have been arrested in Grimsby after a mosque was attacked when a party spiralled out of control, police said.
The 16 and 17-year-olds were arrested following the incident on Thursday night. Police say they are investigating whether the attack on the mosque was racially motivated.
Milton Keynes: Arson attack on Islamic centre
A lighted bottle of inflammable liquid has been thrown onto the roof of a Milton Keynes mosque, police have said.
The Zainabia Islamic Centre in Peverel Drive, Granby, was subjected to an arson attack on Thursday night when about 30 people were inside. Witness Fazilat Shivji said members of the community managed to deal with the flames before firefighters arrived.
Poole: Two arrested after mosque attacked
Two men have been arrested after a mosque was attacked by four men in Ashley Road, Parkstone yesterday. Four windows were smashed at the premises around 3.50pm. The premises of the Dorset Islamic Cultural Centre were understood to be unoccupied at the time.
The attack has been condemned by members of the local community.
One man was arrested at the scene and is currently helping police with their inquiries. Another man was arrested later in the evening. Inquiries are on-going into the incident and two other men are still being sought in connection with the attack.
Police on guard at Ahmadiyya mosque in Morden after threats made to burn it down
Police deployed officers to guard Morden mosque yesterday after extreme racist threats appeared on social media sites calling for it to be burnt to the ground.
The threats follow the murder of 25-year-old Drummer Lee Rigby by two men on Wednesday (May 22) in Woolwich which led to about 250 English Defence League (EDL) supporters rioting outside Woolwich Arsenal station.
The Baitul Futuh Mosque, in London Road, is the largest in western Europe and was targeted on a Facebook page named True British Patriots. Users on the page referred to Muslims as “f****** muzzies” and called for mosques in Watford, Braintree in Essex and Morden to be burned to the ground.
Following attacks on mosques in Gillingham, Kent and Bolton, one user, Steve Dungey, said: “We need more of this there is a mosque in mordon south london burn it down.”
