‘Britain’s surrender’ – another paranoid rant from Mad Mel

Melanie Phillips Jihad in Britain“In Britain, the war in Gaza has revealed the extent to which the media, intelligentsia and political class have simply crumbled in the face of the global jihad….

“Years of demonizing Israel and appeasing Islamist extremism within Britain have now coalesced, as a result of the media misrepresentation of the Gaza war as an atrocity against civilians, in an unprecedented wave of hatred against Israel and a sharp rise in attacks on British Jews.

“Throughout the war, London’s streets have witnessed a hallucinatory level of violent and explicit support for Hamas from Muslims, members of the far left and supposedly progressive individuals….

“Last Thursday, Mr. Miliband wrote in the Guardian that there was no single, unified Islamist threat but merely a set of various local grievances, such as Kashmir or the Golan Heights. Such startling ignorance of the goals and ideological antecedents of the Islamic jihad, from Hamas to Hezbollah to Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba, is of a piece with the British government’s stubborn refusal to accept that the West is under assault from a war of religion.

“The government denies this fact because it does not want to face up to the unpalatable realities of fighting such a war. So although ‘middle Britain’ is beginning to grasp that the Islamists in Gaza are the same as those rampaging through the streets of London, ministers are intent on appeasing Muslim extremism and intimidation both at home and abroad.

“Accordingly, while Britain’s security services have had significant success in smashing Islamic terrorism plots, government strategy for combating Islamist extremism rests upon seeking to mollify Britain’s two million or so Muslims by avoiding confrontation – which means turning a blind eye to threatening statements.

“Recently, prominent British Muslims who advise ministers against Islamist extremism wrote an open letter making the veiled threat that unless the government condemned Israel there would be a rise in violence in Britain.

“Ministers’ openly stated fear that this will indeed happen as a result of the war in Gaza makes them anxious to show Britain’s Muslims that they oppose Israel’s actions. They don’t understand that, by showing such weakness in the face of intimidation, they are not just betraying their Israeli ally but also undermining the Western defense against the jihad.

“Across the spectrum, Britain’s elites are terrified of dealing with militant Islamism. It is hard to avoid the conclusion that, in a pattern which goes back to the foundational Christian blood libel against the Jews, they are concealing their fearful inability to deal with Islamist aggression by displacing the blame onto its Israeli victims instead.”

Islam based on ‘an explicit anti-Jewish discourse’ says Geoffrey Alderman

“The conflict in Gaza has also furnished us, most usefully, with further proofs of Islamic prejudice against Jews and Judaism. As I reminded you last week, I have not hesitated to point out that Islam was founded in part on the basis of an explicit anti-Jewish discourse, and that this discourse is alive and well.

“I have been pilloried publicly, on more than one occasion, for having said this. So I have taken some pleasure in drawing the attention of my critics to (a) the calls by Hamas ‘commander’ Mahmoud Zahar (on Al-Aqsa TV, January 6) for the worldwide murder of Jewish children and (b) the much-reported possibility that an Islamist website has been used to compile a ‘hit list’ of prominent British Jews deemed guilty of ‘war crimes’.”

More idiotic bashing of British Muslims

Text message“You would have thought that after relying on the dubious claims of Glen Jenvey for a front page lead story, only for it to have been withdrawn less than a week later might have made the Sun‘s journalists slightly more circumspect in accusing British Muslims of stirring up hate or targeting Jews.

“Then you of course remember that you’re dealing with the Sun, where few of the journalists in the first place have enough brains or probably the time to make a Google search before taking to slamming their keyboard and banging out another idiotic piece. So it is with today’s banner boosting, potentially baseless claim, that ‘menacing texts sent … by Hamas supporters’ originated in this country.”

Italian minister blasts Muslim protesters’ prayers

Italy’s defense minister warned the country’s Muslims to stop further “provocations” after thousands held prayers in public squares in Milan during pro-Palestinian demonstrations over the past week.

Ignazio La Russa, from the right-wing National Alliance, said he did not oppose protests or want to deny anyone the right to pray, but called the public prayers a challenge to peace. “I say enough of the provocations of Islamists in Milan,” he told Il Giornale newspaper on Sunday. “In Milan, a legitimate demonstration ended in a deliberately provocative mosque under the open sky.”

Thousands of Muslims knelt with their heads bowed to the ground in prayer before Milan’s central train station in one of several pro-Palestinian protests on Saturday. A week ago, Muslims held prayers in front of Milan’s central cathedral, angering right-wing politicians in the overwhelming Catholic country who called it an affront to Christianity.

“What would have happened if a group of Christians gathered together to pray with a rosary before Mecca? They probably would have been stoned,” said La Russa, who described himself as a practicising Catholic who attends Mass almost every Sunday.

Milan’s deputy mayor issued a similar warning to Muslims, saying four protests in seven days was too much. “Enough with pro-Hamas marches now,” said Riccardo De Corato. “Milan is not a province of Gaza and has no intention of reluctantly instituting this type of ‘Gaza Saturdays.'”

Protests against the Israeli offensive continued in Italy on Sunday, with 3,000 people marching through the center of Naples. Another 1,000 held hands to form a human chain and march through Rome’s historic center to demand an end to violence in Gaza.

‘Britain’s Muslims should condemn Hamas, not Israel’

Shiraz Maher outlines the choice facing the UK Muslim community over Gaza:

“… this is the straightforward decision that British Muslims will have to make: between Hamas, a terrorist group committed to destroying a sovereign state and its people – and Israel, the region’s only democracy which is responding to that threat. It really is that simple.”

Daily Telegraph, 9 January 2009

Well, Mad Mel may have repudiated Ed Husain because he balks at supporting the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza, but she will be pleased to hear that there is at least one professional ex-HTer who is prepared to join her in endorsing Israeli state terrorism.

British National Party supports Israeli attack on Gaza

Thurrock Patriots

“No don’t adjust your eyesight. You don’t have double vision. That’s right. Yup, that’s right. The fascist British National Party, whose leader believes that the Nazi holocaust is a hoax, is overjoyed at the genocide in Gaza. And why not? They’re killing Muslims so it can’t be bad.”

Tony Greenstein examines how the BNP’s anti-Muslim racism leads it to side with the state of Israel in its oppression of the Palestinian people.

Tony Greenstein’s Blog, 6 January 2008

See also “The real situation in Gaza and Israel” by the BNP’s “legal expert” Lee Barnes:

“This sort of ‘disinfecting’ process whereby Israel is required to sterilise areas of radical Islamist support … is what all nations have to do in order to eradicate Islamist cells who have managed to take over territory either within or on the edges of their borders…. For those that think what Israel is doing is excessive – that is ridiculous in relation to what Israel militarily can do. Excessive would be the eradication of Gaza with a nuclear weapon. What Israel is doing is what nations do when they secure their national security. Nationalists must fight for the survival of their nations.”

And see the article “Gaza – A window into the future” by Carlos Cortiglia on the BNP London website:

“The events in Gaza are a cruel reminder of what could one day happen in a country called United Kingdom if a creed of intolerance is allowed to prosper. After many years of occupation and as a gesture of goodwill, one day Israel decided to withdraw from the Gaza Strip only to find itself bombarded with rockets and human bombs.

“Hamas, Hezbollah, AlQaeda, whatever the name this creed of terror can adopt, are one and the same. When they are not strong enough, they present themselves as peace movements and freedom fighters, even as moderate thinkers in search of religious illumination and goodwill, but when they are strong enough they challenge, destroy and corrode true civilization.”

It’s also worth looking at the comments following Nick Griffin’s article “Israel’s Gaza affair”. Some examples:

“The Israelis will NEVER get unbiased reporting on the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation, despite being the only civilised country in the region & fighting for their very existance. It is NOT our place to get involved but you aren’t the only one to be 100% behind them, they are an example to us all because the only thing the Islamic Terrorists understand is FORCE.”

“The bottom line is that Israel acts as a vital buffer against Islam in the Middle East, and any enemy of Islam is a friend of mine.”

“While the Labour British Government continue to treat British people as second class citizens in our own country and continue to treat the immigrant and asylum invaders as VIP’s its nice to see a state like Israel protecting ‘its own’. A leaf that this Labour Government should take out of the Israeli book.”

“… if Israel falls or is weakened badly it could embolden the Muslims here. We need to stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel’s right to protect itself and make clear we do so. Islam must NOT be allowed any victories!”

And so on, and so on.

‘Militant Islam threatens us all’ says Likud leader

“We fight to defend ourselves, but in so doing we are also fighting a fanatical ideology that seeks to reverse the course of history and throw the civilized world back into a new dark age. The struggle between militant Islam and modernity – whether fought in Afghanistan, Iraq, India or Gaza – will decide our common future. It is a battle we cannot afford to lose.”

The witch-hunt of Asghar Bukhari

AsgharA London-based think tank has revealed that the co-founder of a Muslim communal organization whose spokespeople are used by mainstream media outlets has glorified terrorism and attacks on Israel.

The Center for Social Cohesion (CSC) reported that last week Asghar Bukhari, co-founder and spokesman for the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPAC UK), said on the social networking site Facebook that any Muslim who died fighting Israel was a martyr.

Responding to comments by another contributor on a discussion entitled ‘Has Europe come to terms with Islam?’, Bukhari said, “Muslims who fight against the occupation of their lands are mujahadeen and are blessed by Allah. And any Muslim who fights against Israel and dies is a martyr and will be granted paradise.”

The Muslim leader went on to justify jihadism, saying, “The concept of jihad is a beautiful thing, and logical to those with a sincere heart. It tells the human being to stand up and fight against those who bring evil and oppression on this earth, and by standing up – roll back that oppression until the people are free from it.”

CSC called into question the media outlets’ use of MPAC UK and their portrayal of it as a mainstream Muslim organization. “The leadership of MPAC UK has been shown before to have expressed opinions which border on glorification of terrorism,” said Robin Simcox, a CSC researcher.

“Concern has previously been expressed to the BBC and other media about their continuing use of Bukhari and his organization. Despite this, they are regularly treated by the BBC and other mainstream media as representative of mainstream Muslim opinion,” Simcox said.

“Bukhari’s incitement and likely illegal public comments should be a matter of grave concern to broadcasters and others who have repeatedly given him and his organization a platform,” Simcox added.

The think tank has reported the incident to the police.

Jerusalem Post, 22 December 2008

The article is in fact almost a straight reprint of a (pdf) CSC briefing.

Predictably Damian Thompson and Melanie Phillips have seized on this, with the latter calling for Asghar to be prosecuted.

Read MPAC’s reponse here. They rightly accuse the CSC of “wasting police time by reporting Asghar Bukhari for supposedly contravening the new law banning ‘glorification of terrorism’. MPACUK – who actually care about stopping terrorism – expect our taxes to be spent trying to prevent anyone from blowing us up on tube trains (not dealing with politically-motivated malicious reports against media spokespeople from Muslim groups!)”

Once again we have a witch-hunt against mainstream Muslims, the origin of which can be traced back to the Islamophobic cesspool that is Harry’s Place.

‘We have to win war against Islam’, Wilders tells Jerusalem conference

Wilders in IsraelDutch Parliamentarian Geert screened his controversial film Fitna in Jerusalem on Sunday, calling on Europe to restrict immigration “from backward Islamic countries” and describing Islam as a totalitarian ideology “full of hate, violence and submission.”

“Europe is in the process of ‘Islamization.’ We need to fight it,” Wilders said. “We have to win the war against Islam. If we don’t … we will lose our cultural identity, our rule of law, our liberties and our freedom.”
