Nazir-Ali: Muslims must accept Judaeo-Christian values

Nazir Ali 2The Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, said the country must never again repeat the multicultural experiment of recent decades. He also called for an end to the segregation of Muslims in British cities, which he warned provides a breeding ground for extremists.

“Not only is there over-crowding, especially of metropolitan areas, but social, educational and medical services are placed under increasing strain and there is always the concern about jobs and housing for the indigenous population, particularly from its poorer sections.

“The question, however, is not simply one of numbers but also of the quality of would-be immigrants. One of the missing features of the mass immigration of the 50s and 60s was any concern for the congruence of such immigration with the values, culture and language of the host country. We must never again allow this to happen.”

The bishop admitted some immigration would be necessary, particularly with an ageing workforce, but added: “All would-be immigrants should be willing to adapt to living in a context shaped by traditional British values, which have been largely derived from the Judaeo-Christian tradition.”

Britons are suspicious towards Muslims, study finds

The British public are concerned at the rise of Islam in the UK and fear that the country is deeply divided along religious lines, according to a major survey.

More than half the population would be strongly opposed to a mosque being built in their neighbourhood, the study found.

A large proportion of the country believes that the multicultural experiment has failed, with 52 per cent considering that Britain is deeply divided along religious lines and 45 per cent saying that religious diversity has had a negative impact.

The findings, to be published later this month in the respected British Social Attitudes Survey, show that far greater opposition to Islam than to any other faith and reveal that most people are willing to limit freedom of speech in an attempt to silence religious extremists.

Blame terrorism on multiculturalism, migration and the Human Rights Act

“As Britain finds itself yet again at the hub of an international bomb plot, Home Secretary Alan Johnson declares we can ‘never be complacent’ about the threat from Islamist terrorism since 9/11. Yet hasn’t Labour been breathtakingly complacent throughout the past decade?

“This is the Government, after all, which has introduced human rights laws making it all but impossible to expel terrorists. In its zeal for ‘multiculturalism’, it has allowed extremists to preach murder in British mosques, while doing nothing to suppress terrorist cells in our universities. Meanwhile, its disgracefully lax migration policy has thrown open our borders to new arrivals on an unprecedented scale, with few or no questions asked….

“In the coming years, this country must face up squarely to the terrorist threat. This will mean effective action against preachers of hate, with amendments to our human rights laws if necessary. It will also mean far tougher border controls – and an end, once and for all, to the scandal of offering visas to study on bogus academic courses.”

Why ‘divisive Islam’ is a threat – Trevor Kavanagh explains

PD*1006852In an op ed in the Sun, Trevor Kavanagh sends season’s greetings to Muslim communities in the UK:

“In the spirit of Christmas, here is a festive quiz – with just one question. As the infamous Noughties draw to a close, what do these two Sunday paper stories have in common?

Anti-censorship champ Jonathan Dimbleby vetoes cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in a campaigning magazine, in case his staff are attacked by enraged Muslims. Christian teacher Olive Jones is sacked for offering a prayer for a sick child – an act deemed as ‘bullying’.

“The answer is simple and alarming. They show the Noughties as the decade when the once-mighty Christian West bowed before Islam.”

He continues: “Police say London is being set up for a murderous attack by extremists. ‘Mumbai is coming to London’, warned a senior detective from the S015 counter-terrorism squad, in a reference to the 2008 massacre in India.

“Meanwhile, we learn at least one Muslim woman a month is the victim of so-called ‘honour killings’. In a year, that’s as many as perished under serial killer ‘Ripper’ Peter Sutcliffe’s hammer. Countless more are beaten and forced into unwelcome marriage, often to ageing strangers. Countless wives and daughters, barred from learning English, live in secret terror of their own fathers, brothers and male cousins.

“Yet, apart from rare cases such as Mehmet Goren, jailed for life last week for slaughtering his teenage daughter, they rarely end in court. We don’t like trespassing on the way of life and death in this so-called ‘community’.”

Multiculturalism helps integration, report finds

Muslims in EuropeMuslims in Britain are the most patriotic in Europe according to a new study. The report, funded by George Soros found that on average 78% of Muslims identified themselves as British. This compares with 49% of Muslims who consider themselves French and just 23% who feel German.

The findings, based on more than 2,000 detailed interviews, suggest that Muslims may be better integrated in Britain than in other parts of the European Union. The report will reopen the debate about the merits of multiculturalism, a policy that has been criticised as a barrier to integration by Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

France prides itself on its secular notion of citizenship and has banned Muslim pupils from wearing the hijab, or headscarf, in classrooms. Yet the study, by the Open Society Institute, found only 41% of Muslims in Paris see themselves as French.

The report also discovered that 55% of Muslims across the EU believe that religious and racial discrimination have risen in the past five years.

“There is a disturbing message that emerges from these findings,” said Nazia Hussain, director of the research project. “Even though Muslims overwhelmingly feel British, they’re not seen as British by wider society. That said … there has been a policy of trying to accommodate difference here and it appears to be paying off.”

‘It’s not just the Swiss – all Europe is ready to revolt’ claims Liddle

Rod Liddle“In the last ten years the people of Europe have begun to revolt against what, at one extreme, they see as the ‘Islamification’ of their countries, or else they hold the more moderate position of being disquieted by the high number of Muslim immigrants they have been forced to receive, most of whom are antithetical to the indigenous way of life and have cultural values that do not accord with the resident majority….

“Across Europe, opposition to Muslim immigration runs at a steady 60 to 65 per cent; the people of the Continent didn’t want the immigration in the first place, are not happy with the way in which the incomers have failed to integrate and do not want any more, regardless of … how often they, the general public, might be written off as Islamophobic. In his recent study of Islamic immigration into Europe (Reflections on the Revolution in Europe), Christopher Caldwell wrote: ‘If Europe is getting more immigrants than its voters want, then it is a good indication that its democracy is malfunctioning.’ Precisely.”

Update:  But let’s be fair to Liddle – he’s not only hostile to Muslims. Just to show that he’s an equal opportunities bigot, in his latest post at the Spectator he assures his readers that: “The overwhelming majority of street crime, knife crime, gun crime, robbery and crimes of sexual violence in London is carried out by young men from the African-Caribbean community.” How long, you wonder, before Liddle draws the obvious political conclusion and joins the BNP.

The Muslim plan to conquer the West (part 678)

“During an inter-faith meeting in Turkey some years ago, a Catholic bishop recounted how an Islamic cleric told the crowd: ‘Thanks to your democratic laws, we will invade you. Thanks to our Islamic laws, we will conquer you.’ … It’s not politically correct to admit – or even discuss – the fact that the West is facing one of the greatest challenges to its traditions of plurality, democracy, freedom of speech and expression.

“Instead we call it ‘multiculturalism’ or ‘cultural relativism’ and applaud it, as if tolerating unfair, inequitable and in some cases downright barbaric ‘traditions’ is somehow a noble, righteous cause. It’s not. It’s a deliberate and cowardly attempt to ignore what is going on right under our noses in case we may be branded racist, sectarian or worse…. in Europe ‘multiculturalism’ seems to have developed into a blind tolerance toward any culture and faith – depriving many people, specifically women, of their human rights.

“In 2004, Italian author Oriana Fallaci wrote The Rage and the Pride, in which she criticised both Muslims (bent, according to her, on conquering the West and annihilating its culture) and Europeans (described as spoiled, hypocritical and blind to the moral threat represented by Islamic expansion). A few years later she wrote a follow-up, The Force of Reason. It’s a wonder she had the courage to do this as, in the introduction, she recounts the intellectual lynching she was subjected to following the publication of her first book.

“According to Fallaci, the politically correct establishment, or ‘modern inquisition’, keeps individuals in fear of expressing what they believe. ‘If you are a Westerner and you say that your civilisation is superior, the most developed that this planet has ever seen, you go to the stake. But if you are a son of Allah, or one of their collaborationists, and you say that Islam has always been a superior civilisation, a ray of light … nobody touches you. Nobody sues you. Nobody condemns you.’ Here Fallaci hit the nail on the head, but she was vilified for saying what people refuse to listen to.”

Mad Mel on the rise of the BNP

Melanie Phillips Jihad in BritainIn this week’s Spectator Mad Melanie Phillips has another go at explaining the factors behind the rise of the BNP.

And, wouldn’t you know it, these include “uncontrolled immigration, multiculturalism, the loss to the EU of Britain’s ability to govern itself. Most toxic of all, however, is the threat from Islamic supremacism and the concern of the disenfranchised white voters that the political establishment is supinely going along with the progressive Islamisation of Britain.”

As we’ve pointed out in the past, Phillips’ analysis of the BNP’s political appeal always omits one major contributory factor, namely the legitimisation of their hysterical anti-Muslim propaganda by “mainstream” right-wing journalists like Phillips herself.

Sunday Express defends ‘Britishness’ against the Muslim hordes

Morris dancers“If global warming is happening fast, the transformation of Britain into a foreign land is occurring more alarmingly swiftly still. Last week the Office for National Statistics revealed that, since 2002, approximately 515 migrants have been arriving here every single day….

“Old cinemas that are not carpet warehouses are overflow mosques…. People bob past in national costume – the women trussed up in black parachutes, to show they are men’s possessions, and the men themselves more heavily bearded than the holy warriors of the Khyber Pass…. It’s like being abroad.

“Instead of multiculturalism leading to acceptance of diversity, the liberal illusion has fostered intolerance and self-righteousness, particularly among younger Muslims who have no sense of Britishness and cling to their religious identity instead.

“So devout have the checkout staff at branches of Sainsbury’s become that they are refusing to handle customers’ beer and wine, as drink is offensive to Allah. Trainee doctors, too, are declining to attend lectures on liver diseases as they are ‘so opposed to the consumption of alcohol they don’t want to learn anything about it’, according to a spokesman at the British Medical Association. They also boycott courses on sexually transmitted ailments and won’t examine ‘patients of a particular gender’ – that is, women. Boots allow Muslim pharmacists not to dispense the Pill ‘for ethical reasons’….

“While not in the same league as blowing up Tube trains, there is still the same philosophy behind flinching from condoms and Special Brew – such goods are the mark of the Infidel….

“Why do we always cave in? The managers at Sainsbury’s and Boots and the nervous medical authorities? Why have our civilised standards and sense of moderation vanished? … We resisted the Nazis in 1940, after Dunkirk. We wouldn’t now. Today’s politicians with their egalitarian humbug would let everybody in, regardless of the fact that we have far too large a population for a tiny island – with the consequent pollution, crime and the destruction of the landscape for cheap housing estates…..

‘Muslim immigration: the most radical change in European history’

Ed_West“Christopher Caldwell is a mild-mannered Financial Times journalist who over the past decade has covered continental Europe (France especially) and its relationship with Islam in particular.

“That Caldwell is so mainstream, well-respected and analytical makes his conclusion all the more devastating – that the mass migration of Africans and Asians into Europe since the Second World War was an unprecedented, economically unnecessary and ill-thought-out plan that has had a profoundly negative impact on our way of life. Furthermore, he says, the mass importation of Muslims at a time when Europe has lost its own faith and Islam has developed a dangerous and powerful radicalism threatens the very freedom of Europe.

“… self-loathing was at the heart of the immigration experiment and later experiments in multiculturalism and political correctness; only a society so racked with self-hatred would have invited foreign labour in such numbers despite the economic benefits being so thin….

“Can Europe be the same? Clearly not. Can we reach some happy compromise that peacefully integrates such large communities and avoids the conflicts that have plagued such multi-cultural countries in the past? Probably not.

“Pim Fortuyn in Holland offered the best hope of a non-racist [sic!], liberal Europe that believed in itself; after his murder the future lies either with Nicolas Sarkozy, who believes in republican integration, or the likes of Geert Wilders, whose implacable hostility to Islam is increasingly shared across Europe.

“This is a fascinating, earth-shattering account of the most radical change in European history.”

Yet another adulatory review of Caldwell’s paranoid anti-Muslim tract, Reflections on the Revolution in Europe, this one by Torygraph blogger Ed West in the Catholic Herald, 21 August 2009
