Sunday Times discovers ‘Trojan Horse 2’ in Tower Hamlets

Today’s Sunday Times features an article entitled “‘Trojan Horse 2’ in London” which attempts to extend the Birmingham “Trojan Horse” witch-hunt to Tower Hamlets, where “Islamic fundamentalists” are supposedly engaged in a takeover of the borough’s schools. No actual evidence is offered to justify this claim – just unsubstantiated assertions by a single anonymous “Whitehall source”.

The authors of the article, Sian Griffiths and Richard Kerbaj, have the nerve refer to “the original plot, first revealed by The Sunday Times”. It was Griffiths and Kerbaj themselves who were responsible for that initial report, published under the shock-horror headline “Islamist plot to take over schools”. Their article was based on a transparently fraudulent document, the so-called “Trojan Horse” letter, which Griffiths and Kerbaj reported as if it was a genuine outline of a plot to seize control of Birmingham schools. The Times, whose reporters – unlike Griffiths and Kerbaj – made some effort to check the authenticity of the letter, quickly concluded that it was crude forgery.

You’d have thought Griffiths and Kerbaj would be embarrassed by their earlier exhibition of journalistic incompetence. But no, they’re evidently proud of their work.

Tesco customer ‘absolutely furious’ that halal meat is advertised ‘in big letters’

Tesco has defended its policy on advertising Halal meat after an “appalled” Mickleover customer vowed never to shop there again. Sandra Hill, from Mickleover, wrote to the Derby Telegraph after going into a local store and finding Halal meat being advertised in “big letters”.

Halal is essentially meat that Muslims are allowed to eat according to Islamic law. It must be prepared in certain way – involving a cut to the jugular vein and the animals must be healthy at the time of slaughter. Some consider the process controversial as it can involve slaughtering animals that have not been stunned to prevent them from experiencing pain or suffering.

Ms Hill said she came out feeling “absolutely furious” after seeing the large advertisement. She said: “As I passed one aisle, there was a large sign over it, in big letters saying Halal meat. Do not think for one minute that I am racist or anti-religious – I am most definitely not – but I am anti-cruelty to animals, and, from my understanding, so are a large number of people.

“I am appalled that a large supermarket chain sees fit to promote a product which ensures that animals are not killed in a way that the average person approves of. I spoke to the manager and voiced my annoyance. I asked her if she would put up a sign over another aisle saying ‘non Halal meat’, and she said ‘No, it was company policy to do what the store was doing’.

“I am a non-meat eater, but I did not see a sign anywhere promoting vegetarian food in big letters, so Tesco is happy to promote cruel animal practices, but not healthy lifestyle choices. I for one will not be shopping in Tesco again.”

Police condemn anti-Islamic messages stuck on lampposts in Astley Bridge

Astley Bridge anti-Islam stickerAnti-Islamic messages stuck on lampposts in Astley Bridge have been condemned by police.

Stickers penned with “Islam barbaric” and “Evil Islam” were posted on traffic lights and lampposts in Blackburn Road yesterday morning.

An off-duty police officer spotted the labels on his way to work and had them removed immediately. Three messages were posted opposite the junction with Lawson Street and another in the small car park – behind the former Three Pigeons pub – in Blackburn Road.

Police said “robust action” would be taken against anyone caught posting racist or offensive messages in public or online.

Det Insp Charlotte Cadden, from Bolton North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Because the content of the stickers was insulting, we have recorded a hate incident rather than a hate crime. We take robust action wherever possible and drive prosecutions, where the level of abuse or threats warrants it.”

Police manhunt for vile mosque raider

Revoe Street Mosque suspectPolice hunting a ginger-haired yob who broke into a Blackpool mosque and urinated on the floor are treating it as a religiously-aggravated crime.

The man was caught on camera breaking into the Revoe Street Mosque late at night before he wandered through a number of rooms and urinated in the reception area.

He then fled the scene. He is described as white with ginger or light brown hair, shorter on the sides than on the top and is thought to be 19–22-years-old. He was wearing a long sleeved white top, black trousers and Nike trainers.

Police say it is believed he was one of four or five men who have entered the mosque grounds through a gate. He is then thought to have forcibly gained access to the building through a wooden side door.

The incident happened at 11pm on Friday September 12 but police only released the details yesterday.

Latest anti-Muslim article from the Mail

Daily Mail British man tortured by Muslim gang

This is the Daily Mail‘s latest attempt to fraudulently introduce a “Muslim” angle into a story.

We are told that the criminal gang who recently kidnapped a British citizen and held him to ransom are “believed to be Muslim”. This belief appears to be based exclusively on the reported countries of origin of some of the kidnappers (and ignores the fact that one of them is described as Ukrainian).

Needless to say, no evidence is offered to substantiate the claim that the presumed religious affiliation of these individuals had anything to do with the crime.

Quite the contrary, in fact. Right at the end of the article a Ukrainian Interior Ministry spokesman is quoted as saying: “We do not think there was any Islamic or political motive here. They were just criminals who wanted money.”

Australia: Liberal MP backs call for ban on veil

George Christensen and tweet

The federal MP for the Queensland seat of Dawson, George Christensen, echoed contentious statements by Palmer United Party senator Jacqui Lambie. “We shouldn’t tolerate sharia law in Aust and the burqa/niqab shouldn’t be worn in public,” Mr Christensen posted on Twitter this afternoon.

In an interview with ABC Online, Mr Christensen said people had a “right to be safe”.

“People get worried when someone walks in and they can’t see exactly who it is,” he said. “And just like you can’t wear a helmet into a bank or a post office and other public places well you shouldn’t be able to wear this thing that covers your face under the guise that it’s some requirement of your religion. Because quite clearly it’s not – there are many Muslim scholars and many Muslims in predominantly Muslim countries that do not wear this.”

He said his concerns were shared “across the nation”.

“Many people hold this view, not just me, my constituents regularly raise the issue with me and it’s a legitimate concern,” he said. “It’s not something that’s just to be sneered at as something that’s not politically correct and we shouldn’t be talking about it. The entire nation of France has a ban on the burka – I mean, is the entire nation of France a nation of racists?”

‘Disgust’ in Rotherham over anti-Islam comments on police Facebook page

South Yorkshire Police

South Yorkshire Police has come under-fire over a string of offensive comments and threats concerning the Rotherham child sex abuse scandal left on its official social media page. More than 1,000 comments, some of which include anti-Islam and racist abuse, were posted on the force’s Facebook page in response to a message thanking members of the public for a ‘peaceful’ Muslim Youth demonstration.

The event, which took place outside the town hall on Saturday, came one week after an English Defence League march saw over 1,000 supporters of the far-right group take to the streets to protest against the findings of the Jay report, which news that at least 1,400 children were abused by gangs of men predominantly of Pakistani origin in Rotherham between 1997 to 2013.

Senior officers have come in for further criticism for failing to take down the messages, some of which threatened violence to fellow Facebook users and appeared to lay the blame for the scandal on the Muslim community. The Yorkshire Post understands more than one member of the public has reported the comments to SYP, but they remained on the site yesterday.

One Rotherham resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Yorkshire Post: “The messages which appeared are hateful and racist. It’s disgusting, there are all sorts of things on there, including threats and it is a public page the police use to get information out there. I complained about it on Saturday and the officer told me they’d pass it on to a supervisor, but still nothing has been done.”

Man, 34, arrested over arson attack on minibus at Manchester mosque

A man has been arrested over an arson attack outside a mosque in Manchester.

A minibus, which was used to ferry elderly worshippers, was torched outside the Manchester Islamic Centre on Regent Street, Newton Heath, earlier this month. Police were called to the building, off Droylsden Road, shortly before 11.30pm on Friday, September 5, and found two CCTV cameras had been ripped from the front of the building.

No one was present at the building, which contains a mosque and educational facilities, at the time and officers intended to return the next day to inform them of the theft. However, around two hours later at 1.20am on Saturday morning, they were called again after a minibus, parked in a secure yard at the back of the centre, was found ablaze. Investigators later found the bus, which cost around £6,000, had been deliberately torched.

Police have now arrested a 34-year-old man from Eccles, Salford, on suspicion of theft and arson.
