Volusia School Board meeting cancelled after threats

Volusia school textbook protest

Volusia school textbook counter-protest

A Volusia County School Board meeting where protesters planned to raise objections to the way a high school history textbook portrays Islam was canceled before it started Tuesday after the U.S. Department of Justice passed along information that raised “substantial safety concerns” among school officials.

The announcement came as about 75 demonstrators gathered outside the School Board office, engaging at times in heated debates about how public school textbooks should deal with religion.

That debate will now be left to another yet-to-be-determined day when the School Board will meet with additional security measures in place, according to a statement released late Tuesday by district spokeswoman Nancy Wait. Longtime board observers could not remember another time when a meeting was canceled over security issues.

Hundreds prepare protest against Islam chapter in Florida school textbook

Florida World History textbookVOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Hundreds of people in Volusia County are preparing a protest against a textbook that’s in public schools across Florida.

They believe a world history book dedicates too much material to Islam and doesn’t focus equally on Christianity and other religions. Some protest organizers want students to go home and tear the section on Islam out of their textbooks.

Geller and Spencer ‘reconsider’ their position on Lennon

Lennon, Spencer and Geller in StockholmPamela Geller and Robert Spencer have a record of performing U-turns over former English Defence League leader Stephen Lennon (“Tommy Robinson”), but this is getting ridiculous.

Having initially given an enthusiastic welcome to Lennon’s break from the EDL (see here and here), within a matter of days Geller and Spencer had angrily denounced him for selling his soul to the Quilliam Foundation and demonstratively severed relations with him (see here and here). “It has become painfully obvious that the enemies of freedom have broken Tommy Robinson …”, Geller wrote. “Now he is the poster boy for the stealth jihad.”

“The poster boy for the stealth jihad”! Blimey. After that, I found it difficult to see how relations between Lennon and his two US sponsors could be re-established, at least in the short to medium term. How wrong I was. Geller and Spencer have just published a joint statement (see here and here) announcing that they’ve kissed and made up with “Tommy”.

Muslim leader attends seminar, nearly banned

OKLAHOMA CITY — The leader of a Muslim advocacy group in Oklahoma attended a law enforcement seminar Friday at the state Capitol despite organizers’ attempts to ban him.

Adam Soltani, director of the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, initially was told he could not register for Friday’s seminar entitled, “Iran, Hezbollah and the Drug Cartels: Counterterrorism Considerations,” which was open to law enforcement and some members of the public. The seminar, which qualifies for continuing education credit for Oklahoma law enforcement, included speakers that Soltani described as “anti-Muslim extremists.”

The event was held in Oklahoma House of Representatives’ chamber and sponsored by the House’s Counterterrorism Caucus, an informal group formed by state Rep. John Bennett. The Sallisaw Republican is a Marine Corps combat veteran and fierce critic of Sharia law.

Solanti said he was told the seminar was full and he couldn’t attend by a Washington, D.C.-based attorney working with the caucus, Michael Hoehn. Hoehn and other event organizers stood watch at the gallery entrances and questioned some of those who tried to go inside, but Soltani entered anyway and watched the seminar from the gallery.

“This would be laughable if it didn’t pose a serious risk of prejudice to Oklahoma’s Muslim community,” said Ryan Kiesel, the head of the Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has called for the state’s Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) to withdraw accreditation for the course.

“And I think CLEET’s reputation has been hijacked by conspiracy theorists and political opportunists, and if they want to restore their reputation, they need to withdraw accreditation for this continuing course,” Kiesel added.

Muslim Brotherhood ‘uses puppies as firebombs’

Weaponised puppies! Are there are no depths to which these evil Islamists will not sink?

Earlier this week, under the touching headline “Refugee puppies from Egypt looking for homes in U.S.”, CBS New York reported that Robyn Urman of Pet ResQ Inc had revealed the shocking news that “members of the Muslim Brotherhood marching toward Tahrir Square to demand that ousted President Mohamed Morsi be reinstated were using puppies as gas bombs – dipping them in gasoline and lighting them on fire”.

According to CBS: “Urman received a Facebook message from Mervat Said, an animal rescue volunteer in Egypt, who said two puppies, Cleopatra and Cairo, were saved moments before they were to be used as weapons.”

City of Dearborn responds to satirical ‘Sharia Law’ article

National Report Dearborn hoax

On Sunday, the National Report, a satirical website that posts stories with headlines such as “Woman Possessed by Demon after Signing Up for ObamaCare” and “CDC Report Reveals Existence of ‘Zombies,’” published an article claiming that Dearborn has become the first U.S. city to “fully implement Sharia Law.”

The story quickly made its way around the internet, garnering nearly 90,000 shares on Facebook, and it seems many people did not understand the joke. According to the City of Dearborn, city hall employees have received multiple phone calls from people asking whether the story is true.

Geller and Spencer invent lying story about ‘Muslim mob’ attacking Jewish family in Sydney

Both Garibaldi of LoonWatch and Sheila Musaji at The American Muslim have taken up a disgraceful story, “Australia: Muslim mob severely injures five Jews in an unprovoked anti-Semitic attack”, that was posted by Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch and then crossposted by Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs.

Spencer and Geller reproduced an article from the Sydney Morning Herald headlined “Five people hospitalised after brawl in Bondi”, which reported the shocking story of an apparently racist attack on a Jewish family near Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
