‘Gammongate’ fraud exposed

The right-wing press spent several days last week whipping up indignation over the sacking of school dinner lady Alison Waldock, allegedly because she accidentally served pork to a 7-year-old Muslim pupil.

Having initially been broken by the Sun, the story was then taken up by the Express and the Mail. Never one to miss an opportunity for a spot of self-promotion and engage in a bit of immigrant-bashing, Nigel Farage of the UK Independence Party spelled out the message that the press coverage was intended to convey: “The reason that Alison’s been sacked is that we’re so terrified in this country of causing offence to anybody, particularly the Muslim religion.”

Zayn Malik told to ‘die’ and branded a terrorist at One Direction concert

Die terrorist Zayn Malik signZayn Malik’s fans are out in force on Twitter this evening after he faced even more racist abuse at a recent One Direction concert.

It was around a year ago that the Bradford bad boy first left Twitter because of the racial slurs being directed at him and his family but it seems the haters are not constrained to online abuse, they’ve been harassing him in person too.

A photo of a supposed sign is being circulated by fan groups on Twitter and it appears to read “Die terrorist Zayn Malik.” In response Directioners around the globe have been pushing to get the hashtag #ZaynIsNotATerroristTR trending worldwide.

Another photo of Zayn looking at his feet and appearing distraught is supposedly showing the moment that he caught sight of the banner which was flown at the band’s San Jose concert this week.

Murfreesboro mosque leader says enough’s enough

Not WelcomeAn Islamic Center of Murfreesboro leader Tuesday questioned why plaintiffs opposed to government approval of mosque construction continue to appeal their case.

“We have already wasted enough energy and money on this issue,” said Saleh Sbenaty, a board member with the ICM and a 20-year professor at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. “We have been here for over 30 years. This is our home. We are productive members of our community. We have no other place to go.”

Plaintiffs’ attorneys Joe Brandon Jr. of Murfreesboro and Thomas Smith of Franklin filed a request to appeal with the Tennessee Supreme Court on Monday. The plaintiffs hope the state’s top court will overrule a Tennessee Appeals Court decision in late May that supported the way the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission approved plans for the ICM to construct a mosque on Veals Road, off Bradyville Pike.

Crayola crayons succumb to creeping Sharia

Crayola Creeping Sharia

Anti-Shariah activists have a new target in their sights: Crayola. Late last week the Pickens County (Ga.) Republican party posted a call to action on its website about a new promotion from the world’s leading crayon manufacturer, which had begun offering free Islamic-themed coloring pages in honor of Ramadan. Zut alors! The images are pretty innocuous — one features a prayer rug; another features a young boy kneeling while reading from the Koran. But the Pickens GOP sees something more nefarious:

Recall that Muslims consider Ramadan the “month of jihad” and “month of victory” over infidels. Crayola should remind kids not to try and draw Muhammad lest their parents need to fend off Muslims and enter witness relocation – like the creator of Everyone Draw Muhammad Day – since the FBI nor anyone else will protect them.

Christmas trees and bunnies abound but a search for the Bible returned zero results.

Both the Pickens County GOP and another anti-Shariah website, the appropriately named “Creeping Sharia,” both published the exact same text on the exact same day, so it’s not clear who plagiarized whom. Crayola is in good company. Other American institutions that have fallen under the spell of Shariah (according to anti-Shariah activists) include David Petraeus, the grocery store Wegman’s, and Nashville’s Hutton Hotel.

NC Muslims hope Gov. Pat McCrory vetoes anti-Shariah bill

RNS-NC-SHARIAHNorth Carolina Muslims hope they can persuade Gov. Pat McCrory, a Republican, to veto a bill that prohibits state judges from considering “foreign law.” “It’s going to be tough,” said Rose Hamid of Charlotte. “But I do believe there is a chance.”

Muslims across the state oppose the bill they think is motivated by intolerance and may potentially infringe on other religious groups. Bills against judicial consideration of “foreign laws” are believed to really be opposing Shariah, or Islamic law.

If McCrory signs the bill, North Carolina would become the seventh state to have an anti-Shariah law, joining Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. In May, Alabama lawmakers approved a like-minded constitutional amendment that state voters will consider in 2014.

Muslims criticize Bloomberg veto of NYPD watchdog

Muslim-American civil rights groups are criticizing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for vetoing a bill on Tuesday (July 23) that would have created an independent inspector general to oversee the New York City Police Department.

The New York City Council passed the bill June 27 as a check against controversial NYPD policies that critics say violate the civil rights of Muslim and other minority New Yorkers. Reports that the NYPD spied on mosques, Muslim businesses, organizations and students began surfacing in 2011.

“The NYPD is out of control and discriminates against innocent Americans, and Mayor Bloomberg has let Americans down by allowing the NYPD to use discriminatory policies without any accountability,” said Glenn Katon, legal director for Muslim Advocates, a civil rights group based in San Francisco.

Critics say the surveillance program has caused many Muslims to stop going to Islamic institutions or speaking out in public, worried it could land them in legal troubles.

The bill would have made it easier to bring racial profiling lawsuits against the NYPD.

History textbook has ‘Muslim bias’, claims Florida Republican politician

A Brevard County high school history textbook contains too much information about Islam and not enough about other religions, a state lawmaker says.

Rep. Ritch Workman, R-Melbourne, wants the AP textbook “World History” out of Brevard classrooms because of what he calls “Muslim bias.” Workman says important parts written about the history of Muslim civilizations have been left out. “It fails to mention tens of thousands of Jews and nonbelievers were slaughtered at the hands of Mohammed, just like the Crusaders did years prior. It’s a very one sided slant,” Workman said.

The book’s publisher, Pearson, says they adhere to the highest editorial standards and a review of the textbook found that it is balanced.

Police investigate threats against New Jersey mosque

ENGLEWOOD — Police say they have “several significant leads” as they investigate a series of threatening phone calls made to a city mosque over the weekend.

According to Det. Capt. Timothy Torell, officers were first called to the Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khorasan Charitable Trust Mosque on Liberty Road at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

After speaking with staff who had received the threats, police called in a bomb squad from the Bergen County Police Department as a precautionary measure. The squad teamed with a K-9 unit to comb the building for any explosives, and turned up nothing suspicious, Torell said.
