Congressman wants ‘all out’ surveillance on Muslims, blames ‘morons’ in media for limiting spying

Peter King (2)Republican Rep. Peter King says the United States should respond to the shootings Wednesday morning in and around the Canadian Parliament, which left a soldier dead, by increasing surveillance on Muslims.

The New York Republican, speaking with NewsMaxTV’s America’s Forum also placed blame on “morons” on the New York Times editorial board, Associated Press, and American Civil Liberties Union for limiting the New York Police Department’s ability to surveil Muslim communities.

“We can have all the technology in the world, the fact is we have to find out what’s happening on the ground in these Muslim communities and we can only do that through increased surveillance,” King said.

“What the NYPD used to until those morons at the New York Times editorial board, and Associated Press, and American Civil Liberties Union went after them…the fact is we have to find what people are thinking. We have to find out who the radicals are,” King said. “We have to find out what’s going on in the mosques which are often incubators of this type of terrorism.”

Reza Aslan: Media has pushed Islamophobia to ‘unprecedented levels’ in U.S.

Religious scholar Reza Aslan ripped comedian Bill Maher on Monday, saying Maher had “gotten away” with making Islamophobic statements in the past because people like him – but adding that the tide has turned.

“I like him,” Aslan told Fusion host Nando Villa. “I think at a certain point, though, there’s been a kind of ‘jump the shark’ moment, and I think that people who are smart, engaged are just not putting up with it any longer. And so a much-needed conversation is finally being had. Not just about the problem of religion and violence, but in how we talk about it.”

Aslan conceded that the ongoing conversation around Islam was precipitated by Maher’s argument with actor Ben Affleck on the Oct. 3 episode of Real Time, during which Maher said the religion was “like the mafia.”

“The problem is that anti-Muslim sentiment in this country is at unprecedented levels, thanks in great part to the media rhetoric,” Aslan said.

Massachusetts: bigots upset over Islam in school curriculum

Some parents in Revere were angry when they learned students were being taught about Islam and the Muslim religion.

“No religion should be taught at school. In their paper it says Allah is their only God. That’s insulting to me as a Christian who believes in just Jesus only,” said Anthony Giannino.

A section of the textbook describing the beliefs of Muslims says, “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah.”

Giannino immediately pulled his son out of the classroom. “We don’t believe in Allah. I don’t believe in my son learning about this here,” he said. “If my son was from another country and came here, he would have been catered to. But where he’s not being catered to, they give him an F.”

The superintendent of Revere Public Schools wrote the parents a letter explaining that it is simply part of the history in that section of the curriculum, and stated, “I want to be very clear that no religion is taught with the purpose of converting students to that religion…”

Police frisk man in Muslim dress – moments after letting him walk past in Western clothes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRLkwkG5nPE&list=UU0W6NYJ_y7cd3laVfaSOl0A

A shocking video that apparently shows a New York police officer pushing two Muslim men up against a wall just because of how they are dressed has sparked fury online.

YouTube star Adam Saleh uploaded the video to the internet after claiming he had had enough of police officers ‘racially profiling’ him when he is dressed in traditional Muslim clothing.

Adam runs a YouTube account called TrueStoryASA with his friend Sheikh Akbar where the two young men make funny and prank videos.

However, they decided to make a new video for their 650,000 subscribers after becoming frustrated at police following them when they are dressed in traditional Muslim attire.

In the three minute video, branded “messed up and cruel” by online fans of the pair, the two young men are first seen wearing western clothing and having an argument in American accents.

A police officer stands close by and appears to watch as the two play out a row that, at one point, gets physical. Despite Adam ‘threatening’ and pushing Sheikh, the officer does nothing.

Just 20 minutes later, the two young men have changed into traditional Muslim dress and are walking past the officer again. They again pretend to have an argument but the officer, who appears to have no clue it is the same men as earlier, instantly steps in and demands to know what is going on.

The officer, whose face is blurred throughout, asks the men what is going on, but when he is told it’s nothing, asks sternly: “What’s all the arguing about, why are you dressed like this?”

Gun Owners of America to give award to shooting range owner who banned Muslims

Jan MorganLast month, an Arkansas gun range owner named Jan Morgan got some national attention when she declared her business a “Muslim free zone,” writing on her website, “This is more than enough loss of life on my home soil at the hands of muslims to substantiate my position that muslims can and will follow the directives in their Koran and kill here at home.”

What many news reports missed is that Morgan is not just the owner of a single shooting range, but a national gun activist who has spoken at multiple events for the “religious liberty” group Liberty Counsel as well as Tea Party gatherings and last month’s misnamed “Two Million Bikers” rally against President Obama.

And Morgan has some friends in high places in the gun lobby. In an interview with Arizona-based radio host Josh Bernstein this week, Gun Owners of America director Larry Pratt praised Morgan, saying that she was “on very sound ground” with her Muslim ban.

Mayor to boycott speech by Jerry Boykin

Jerry Boykin FRCThe mayor of Vancouver, Wash., is boycotting a prayer breakfast speech by a retired U.S. Army General who has called Islam a “totalitarian way of life,” called for a ban on mosques in American and said that Muslims should not enjoy free speech protection under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Retired Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin, a regular on the conservative speaking circuit, is slated to keynote Friday’s Clark County Mayors’ and Civic Leaders’ Prayer Breakfast. The selection of Boykin has shrouded in civic controversy what is normally a solemn and unifying civic event that draws more than 900 people.

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, while appreciating Boykin’s 36-year military career, said the general’s views are at cross-purposes with the purpose of the breakfast.

“The vision of the breakfast is ‘inspiring Clark County residents to honor, encourage and support each other,’” Leavitt said in a statement. “But it is apparent to me that the values of the keynote speaker are not consistent with the original vision of the event. In fact, I’m certain that Lt. General Boykin’s position on a number of social, political and religious issues does not at all reflect the values of acceptance, tolerance and compassion our community strives for.”

Boykin began to make news after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. He characterized the war on terrorism as a Christian war with Satan the enemy. The stand was quickly repudiated by President George W. Bush.

In retirement, Boykin has been more outspoken. Islam is “a totalitarian way of life,” he has stated, its followers “under an obligation to destroy our Constitution.” Therefore, in Boykin’s words, “It should not be protected under the First Amendment.”

Boykin has warned that God will deliver upon America a Civil War-like reckoning because of abortion and pornography. At a recent conference, he stated: “Americans need to have more babies and populate this country with red-blooded patriotic Americans” to counter Muslim influence.

CAIR launches website exposing America’s ‘Islamophobia network’

CAIR Islamophobia Monitor

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today launched Islamophobia.org, the latest element in the Muslim civil rights organization’s work to monitor and challenge the growing anti-Muslim bigotry in American society.

CAIR’s Islamophobia.org site presents detailed profiles of a number of individuals and institutions involved in the American Islamophobia network.

“Islamophobia.org is a reflection of CAIR’s philosophy of educating people and empowering them toward positive action,” said CAIR Department to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia Director Corey Saylor.

“Since CAIR included the first Islamophobe profiles in its 2013 report ‘Legislating Fear,’ local communities have used them to begin positive conversations leading to the rejection of bigotry in all its forms,” said Saylor. “We intend to continue this community partnership by further empowering local advocates with a centralized resource that provides detailed information about the haters who tour the nation spreading misinformation and religious division.”

The searchable collection of profiles includes well-known hate entities such as Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy and Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch. Additionally, the site features information on key, but less visible members of the network, such as a number of local ACT! for America leadership.  The site also lays the groundwork for a forthcoming CAIR initiative to counter all types of prejudice in the United States.

San Diego mosque reports threatening letter

Islamic Center San DiegoSAN DIEGO — A local Muslim civil rights group said a threatening letter was received by a San Diego-area mosque this week and has asked the FBI to investigate.

The letter, which came through the U.S. mail on Wednesday, was opened and included threatening language, said Hanif Mohebi, executive director of the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. He said the envelope also had a little plastic bag containing an unknown substance attached to the back of it.

Mohebi said the letter referred to a “death sentence” and also made references to Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco. He said the letter has been turned over to San Diego police.

FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office is investigating the threat and contents of the letter. Authorities determined Friday the substance is not harmful and poses no threat to public safety.

Mohebi declined to disclose the exact contents of the letter, but said he has asked mosques and other religious centers in other cities to report if they receive similar threats. “Really our aim is to make sure that people are safe and secure,” he said.

In a Facebook post, Mohebi blamed the letter on the “rising level of anti-Muslim sentiment in our society that goes largely unchallenged.”

Brooklyn man celebrates lenient sentence for anti-Muslim hate crime

Chaim WeissLast July, at the height of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza, Chaim Weiss repeatedly drove his car, which was decorated with Israeli flags, past the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge during early morning prayers blaring out Israeli music.

After worshippers came out to remonstrate with him, Weiss fled the scene. He later returned and parked his car outside the building, playing the music at such a volume that it drowned out a recitation of the Qur’an inside.

This week Weiss appeared at Brooklyn Criminal Court charged with disruption or disturbance of a religious service, funeral burial or memorial service, and disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to one day of community service and agreed to stay out of trouble for six months. As you can see from the photo, Weiss was well pleased with the result.
