A planned protest against Halal slaughter in Skegness will now be organised by the Skegness division of the English Defence League.
The protest, on July 27, was originally planned by the East Anglian Patriots, the group who protested against the planned mosque in Lincoln on June 8. Around 200 people gathered in City Square on the day, with protestors campaigning against the “Islamification” of Britain.
A post on their Facebook page on Friday, which has more than 950 likes, said that the event was being cancelled. But, the following day, another message was posted saying the local division of the EDL would take on the running of the protest.
Nerys McGarry, spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police, said: “We are aware of a protest taking place in Skegness on July 27. Talks are underway to facilitate that in a peaceful way.”
