A racist teenager has been jailed for throwing a pot noodle at two Asian boys walking home from Mosque.
Blackburn magistrates heard Luke Croft had a previous conviction for throwing a stone at Asian boys leaving school and had posted racist abuse on his Facebook page. And after a previous court appearance he put on Facebook an abusive message about one of the magistrates.
Croft, 18, of Wood Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault. He was jailed for 20 weeks.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the boys, aged 8 and 10, were walking back from Mosque wearing traditional dress when they heard someone shout. A car drove past and someone threw a pot noodle out of the window and shouted racist abuse relating to their grandmother. “The pot noodle hit one of the boys on the head,” said Miss Allan.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said it had been a spur of the moment incident which must have been extremely unpleasant for the two young boys.
“Things are very tense at the moment because of what is going on in Syria and the like,” said Mr Taylor. “Images of people being beheaded are coming back and causing a great deal of upset. What is going on elsewhere has impacted on his behaviour. Work needs to be done to re-wire the feelings he has and make sure they don’t resurface.”
